Where does the news get its polls?

yesterday i saw Ron Paul winning every online poll, Mitt was second and Cain was third, although CNN didnt announce it like that and said other people won. even on the cnn online poll the results were the same... I noticed they used a "insider" poll. is this because they didnt like the results?
