Could the smoke from my fireplace hurt my two rats?

Rats have a very high rate of getting sick from the upper respiratory system. They are born with the upper respiratory disease. And things like stress, maybe smoke, could trigger it. I've had two rats die because of this disease. Since she's acting weird, I would move the cage immediately!
