Is it safe to travel to playa del carmen now?

My family and I (8 people) be safe or have to worry when we vacation there in January 2011? I went there two years ago and had no problems and wasn't worried at all. but hearing all the stuff on the news makes me skeptical. If you recently went there please answer i would like your feedback. Thanks.
